How it Started
AMP Mental Health, founded by Dr. Adrian Mesa, APRN, DNP, PMHNP-BC, FNP-BC, in 2020, is a progressive outpatient mental health practice dedicated not only to patient care but also to the advancement of the psychiatric nursing profession. Dr. Mesa, a former professor at the University of Miami, recognized a significant bottleneck in the field: the lack of available preceptors for student psychiatric mental health nurse practitioners (PMHNPs). Understanding that such a shortfall could delay or even deter the educational progress of these students, he was motivated to act.
Drawing on his academic background and his firsthand knowledge of the challenges faced by students, Dr. Mesa integrated a robust preceptorship program into the fabric of AMP Mental Health. This program is designed to offer student PMHNPs pursuing their advanced specialty in psychiatry a rich, hands-on learning experience under the guidance of seasoned professionals. By doing so, Dr. Mesa not only enhances the training and readiness of new practitioners but also contributes to the overall growth and quality of mental health services.
